Rolling Into Beantown
Boston, MA - 4/17/07
Every good New Englander knows that the day of the Boston Marathon means many things for the citizens of Boston. Sure, it is a day displaying the fruition of many people’s efforts in terms of training. It is a true show of sport performance excellence.Outside of that, Marathon Monday is also a day of celebration and patriotism. What that means in Boston is drinking. Heavily. No but really – this day is very special in that there is a home game at Fenway, the Boston Marathon taking place and what is declared a statewide holiday in Massachusetts.
Oakley rolled into Boston a few days prior to this main event, setting up the Rolling O Lab in the Fitness Expo at the Hynes Convention Center. Fellow exhibitors at the Expo included Adidas, Gatorade, Mizuno, Saucony, Nike and many others.
It took a great deal of precision and effort on the part of the Rolling Lab’s crew to get the Lab into the building. With its dimensions, it was a task that required a lot of patience. Spaced every so often inside the convention center are large concrete poles, which had to be maneuvered around. Long story short – a few hours after its arrival at the center, the Lab was positioned inside, ready to welcome crowds inside for HDO tours. Good work Aaron and the rest of the Rolling Lab Crew!
For three days the expo took place, ending Sunday prior to the Marathon on Monday. During that time, numerous tours were given to many of the marathon participants and their supporters as well as a few of Oakley’s sponsored athletes, Competitor Magazine, Runner’s World Magazine, The Improper Bostonian and WBCN Radio. Once again the Lab hit a relevant event for Oakley and its consumer audience.
As a well-deserved perk for the Rolling Lab Crew, Sports Marketing Manager Garry Gant was able to set us up with tickets to the Red Sox game at Fenway. For many of us, it was our first time to the stadium, and one that won’t be soon forgotten.
More unforgettable is the experience Oakley’s Ryan Evert, Zach Weaver and Garry Gant had when they were invited to hang out over at David Ortiz’s house. Let’s just say all of us at the Rolling Lab got to hear about it the next day – I don’t think they had come down off of their excitement high just yet! While at Ortiz’s house, the guys got to spend some time with Big Papi, getting to check out his Lambroghini firsthand and walking away with both signed hats and a copy of his book.
Big thanks go out to Garry Gant, David Ortiz, everyone at the Hynes Convention Center, Oakley Sales Rep for Boston - Mark Wakeling and many more.
