Bio
Heikki Sorsa is an amazing snowboarder from his buttery smooth approach with the most basic tricks, huge airs, his innovative approach in ripping the backcountry. Heikki powered his way onto the snowboarding map in 2001 when he claimed the world record for the largest air in Oslo, Norway at the Oakley Arctic Challenge by charging 9.3 meters (29 feet) into the air. Falling just one foot short of Oakley’s set goal of 30 feet for the Gold Time Bomb watch, valued at $24,000. As a consolation prize Oakley gave the “Flying Fin” an all expense paid, weeklong trip anywhere in the world. Heikki chose Hawaii so he could take some time to enjoy one of his favorite hobbies; surfing.
The following year Heikki again put a huge stamp on the snowboarding map, by ruling the competition leading up to and at the 2002 Olympics. Sporting a Mohawk, big smile, and the pink A-Frame goggles, Heikki threw down some of the biggest most stylish airs people had ever seen. Since 2002 Heikki has been focused on more Big Air and Slopestyle contests, along with filming parts for Standard Films and Mack Dawg.
During the 2005 / 2006 winter season Heikki hooked up with a film agency out of London to shoot his own TV show called the “Sorsa Project,” for Fuel TV. The show follows Heikki around for a full season documenting his incredible adventures, from the Air & Style Contest in Germany, backcountry sessions in Utah, to shredding in Dubai with Terje Haakonsen.
Look for Heikki to soar over that 30-foot mark at the 2007 Oakley Arctic Challenge.
